What a year it has been for SharePoint
but it's just the tip of the iceberg
So much has changed this year in the world of SharePoint. Lots of new features, and thinking back to the beginning of the year where we started, it’s clear we’ve gotten the beginning of an overhaul of the SharePoint environment. Honestly, I don’t think we’ve gotten even half of what we’ll be getting as part of this overhaul. Copilot Agents will change how users search for information inside SharePoint. What will that mean for the Microsoft Search bar at the top of the page? Will keyword-based searching be phased out at some point?
What about existing methods to customize SharePoint? JSON formatting is still going strong despite the recent list & library facelift, which is great to see. While custom scripting is being phased out in lieu of SharePoint Framework (SPFx) components, Microsoft is still fully in favor of low-code/no-code customization, and not just within Power Platform.
As we near the time for Microsoft Ignite, I think about what things they could announce. Obviously they’ll show off more Copilot stuff, because it’s the biggest thing they’re pushing. What else, though? Maybe more about the future of searching within M365? I’m sure we’ll get news about SharePoint features, and hopefully more AI integration outside of Copilot. Fingers crossed! Well, let’s get into the news. Make sure to forward this email to a friend who needs to stay up to date as well!
ROADMAP
Approvals integration in Document Libraries
Finally a decent approval system is coming to document libraries near you! This will use the Approvals app in Teams, making the experience much better for your users. It will also update the Approval Status column on the library. This will start rolling out in November. Link to roadmap
SharePoint: Customize your individual sites and experiences with fonts and themes
The new brand center is rolling out this month, and will let you use custom fonts and themes to brand your SharePoint sites. This will make it much easier to create a uniform experience across your intranet, department sites, and more. Link to roadmap
New SharePoint Start Page
The new SharePoint start page has rolled out to all environments now, so check it out! It looks great, and will hopefully continue to improve with future updates. Link to roadmap
