The new SharePoint content pane is here!
Your coffee or tea tastes 10% better while reading this issue. Results may vary
The new content pane is live in my tenant, and I’ll be creating content about it as I get familiar with it. So far, it’s very nice and seems to be much easier to edit pages. Check your tenant to see if you’ve got it!
Copilot for SharePoint is rolling out this month and will sit in that new content pane. This will dramatically change how we create pages, and if you’ve experimented with Copilot for PowerPoint, this is probably the kind of experience you can expect.
There are still major features coming, though, like Click-to-Copilot and flexible layouts that will round out this overhaul of the SharePoint experience. I’ll keep looking for news on these features and let you know as news develops. In the meantime, get that data access governance under control to make sure that when Click-to-Copilot IS live, you don’t have data being exposed accidentally. There are new features on the roadmap that’ll help with this if you don’t already have tools to identify oversharing.
In unrelated news, I launched a Shopify site this weekend to make it easier to access my digital downloads. I’ll definitely be adding many more guides to this, so let me know if there’s a topic you want to see covered!
Make sure to forward this email to a friend who needs to stay up to date as well!
ROADMAP
SharePoint: Using Data Access Governance to understand the tenant's current permission landscape
The premium feature, Data Access Governance, will soon be able to provide better visibility into sharing across SharePoint. You’ll be able to see which sites have content shared with more than X users. This will be great for identifying potentially overshared content on sites. This is rolling out beginning in September. SharePoint: Site Access Review offers a way for SharePoint tenants to empower site owners using Data Access Governance
Another premium access governance feature is rolling out soon (September). This adds a feature to oversharing reports that triggers a site access review, which will be sent to the site owner. The site owner can review the potentially overshared content and take action. Very cool feature, and will really help tame the overshared content in tenants without excess burden on the SharePoint Admin. Link to roadmap
