New Features! SharePoint Branding, AI, and more...

It’s been awhile since I’ve been in your inbox, huh? I’ve decided to repurpose my newsletter to have more focus and structure. It took me some time to work through the details, but I believe I’ve got the right ingredients to provide you more value. I’ve also switched email providers, so I brought you all with me. If you’re not interested in emails from me any more, I understand, and there’s an unsubscribe link at the bottom of this email.

If you’re still with me, then get ready for some great stuff. I’m going to keep you informed on all the new features coming in the roadmap, as well as some insights on what’s going on in the world of SharePoint.

I hope you’re having an amazing week, and creating amazing solutions. Now lets get into the news!

Steve

ROADMAP
Centrally manage branding for your organization

A preview will be available for the new feature to manage branding across SharePoint Online. The preview will be available in April, so be on the lookout for this! Roadmap link

Introducing custom fonts for SharePoint

Also coming this month, custom fonts will be possible! I’ve had clients asking for this before. A preview is available starting this month, with a broad rollout beginning in September 2024. Roadmap link

Improvements for document library version history limits

For those of you who are having a hard time managing your versioning, and running out of storage in your tenant, this will be a lifesaver! This can be controlled at the tenant-level, site-level, and library-level. You’ll want to keep an eye out for this feature, with a preview starting in May, followed by a rollout in August. Autofill columns

A new feature is coming to SharePoint Premium! This will take taxonomy tagging to the next level, using AI prompts to fill in metadata fields. This isn’t restricted to just managed metadata fields, either! This will be a game changer for sure. The rollout will begin in May for this one. Roadmap link

SharePoint Premium Content Query - Columns in new libraries are queryable

Another SharePoint Premium feature. This one will be available for (premium) licensed users to set up, but anyone will be able to use it. I’ve seen this one in action, and it’s very cool. Roadmap link

MY INSIGHTS

We’re seeing a flood of new features coming out for SharePoint, and a lot of them are focused on the page experience and aesthetics. I think we’ll continue to see this trend throughout the year, as Microsoft tries to overhaul both the authoring experience as well as the viewer experience.
