Copilot readiness in SharePoint, updated page editor, and more!

Happy June, everyone! It’s nice to have a slower week, after so many conferences have been going on lately. Now is when we start learning new skills and preparing for all the Copilots coming soon, the updated page editor, and so much more. It feels good, doesn’t it? I hope everyone has a fantastic week and learns a lot of cool things to share with others.

ROADMAP
Content Pane for SharePoint Pages and News

The content pane is launching in July. This hasn’t gotten mentioned much since it was announced, but it’s the crucial piece for the SharePoint page editor upgrade. This is going to be where you’ll more easily add web parts to a page. This should let us save a lot of time when editing pages. Link to roadmap

Restricted SharePoint Search

This feature was recently updated on the roadmap, so it looks like this is now in General Availability. This lets you restrict which sites can be searched, using a whitelist technique. The reason it was created is for organizations who want to roll out Copilot, but haven’t properly secured their data. With this feature, you can restrict search (and Copilot) to only sites where you’ve applied proper data governance, adding additional sites (up to 100) as you progress. Link to roadmap

ANNOUCEMENTS
The return of the M365 developer program tenants

Microsoft shared recently on a community call that the developer program tenants will be returning later this year. It’s been awhile since the program was placed on pause, due to bad actors abusing the free nature of these tenants. Microsoft believes they have a method to ensure the abuse won’t happen again, so if you’re still needing a free developer tenant, the wait will soon be over.
