Agents... agents everywhere!

Sponsored By

Lots and Lots of movement with Copilot Agents. Not to mention the number of conversations I’ve been having with clients. Not just SharePoint agents, either, although that’s one of the most common entry points for customers. Many are hitting the limits of what SharePoint agents can currently do and need more customization.

At the same time, admins have been needing more control over those agents, and visibility on where they even are. Luckily, this week’s roadmap has that covered. We’ll continue to see more admin controls and governance reports throughout the year, I think. Organizations will have to have these controls quickly in order to be comfortable with broad adoption of these easy-to-use agents.

I’m seeing a very big difference between Copilot Studio and what Microsoft calls “pro-code agents” as well. I learned recently that these aren’t exactly a matter of which one to use. Each approach will have their strengths and weaknesses. The low-code approach is easier for novices but has a lot of licensing and overhead. Pro-code gets around all of that, but in the end, they’re designed to work together, with agents using other agents. So it’s not about choosing low-code versus pro-code. Enterprise-grade solutions will likely be leveraging both.

I think that’s going to be a very big theme this year, and one I’ll be embracing through my content. Monday I’m releasing a video just to explain what Copilot is versus an agent. That’s confusing enough for most people that it’s worth discussing. They’re very different things designed for different purposes, as you’ll find out!

Don’t worry, I’m not done creating SharePoint content by any means! But agents are going to play such a large role with SharePoint, it’s a skillset you need to develop to succeed going into the future. I’ve got you covered there, and it likely won’t involve you having to learn Power Platform if you’ve been avoiding it!

ROADMAP
Manage SharePoint agents via Integrated apps

Admins can manage SharePoint agents as shared apps in the Integrated apps section of the Microsoft 365 admin center. They will be able to block/unblock agents directly in the Shared agents tab. This is VERY needed governance that customers have been begging for since the release of SharePoint agents. This begins rolling out in July. Link to roadmap
