2024 has been the year of AI in M365

Microsoft has not just been pushing a lot of things for Copilot lately. I’d say they’ve pushed a lot to SharePoint Premium as well. This is a fantastic idea. Most people ignored SP Premium because the marketing was TERRIBLE. They couldn’t even stick with a name for the suite of products for long. Now that Gen AI has taken the world by storm, customers are hyped about what AI could do for them, especially in terms of efficiency and productivity. SharePoint Premium actually excels in this space, because it’s basically a set of canned solutions (like automatic metadata extraction) you just enable and start using. You don’t have to configure any elaborate process or hire AI engineers to set up Azure resources. You just start using it to simplify your processes. I love it, and I’ll continue to spread the word. I like Copilot, but I LOVE SharePoint Premium for customers.

In other news, have you noticed that Microsoft Lists has been a testing ground for SharePoint features? There’s been a lot of things lately that started out in Lists, only to make their way into (normal) SharePoint later on. The change to the Views selector has been a major one, and plenty of people have complained at how strange the behavior of it is. Luckily this hasn’t completely broken other things, and custom JSON formatting is still thriving. They need to improve their QA process a bit, but that’s been the case for a long time, hasn’t it? 🤣

That's been the two major things on my mind this week, so let's get into the news. Make sure to forward this email to a friend who needs to stay up to date as well!

ROADMAP
Updates for font management capabilities

Additional capabilities are being added to help ensure your custom branding is used across your SharePoint environment. You’ll be able to even hide the “From Microsoft” fonts from your site owners. This is rolling out in November 2024. Link to roadmap

eSignature integration with Adobe and Docusign rolling out globally

If you didn’t have native eSignature in your region because it wasn’t allowed, you’ll soon have at least the 3rd-party integration stuff. Nice sacrifice on Microsoft’s part. They’ll give up their own native process to let you do Adobe Sign. This is rolling out in November. Link to roadmap

Improvements for document library version history limits

The new versioning settings are now rolled out to standard (worldwide) tenants. If you’ve been struggling with storage space, time to start tweaking the settings and get your consumption down. It’ll come later to GCC and other high-security environments next year, more than likely. Link to roadmap

Content Pane for SharePoint Pages and News

This has also finished deploying globally, to all tenants. The content pane is just one of the major updates to SharePoint lately, with plenty more to come as part of what I’ve been calling the next evolution for SharePoint. I can’t wait to see what they’ll be adding next to the content pane. Link to roadmap
